My jem physio non-negotiables

The values behind each and every appointment

If you've ever left a healthcare appointment feeling unheard, been handed a generic exercise sheet, or told something will "just take time" without any real explanation, this one's for you.

Unfortunately, physio can sometimes feel like a conveyor belt. You come in, someone assesses you, tells you what's wrong, hands you a plan, and sends you on your way. Some may argue it's efficient (not me), but it's not always effective. And more importantly, it's often not very human.

At jem physio, I do things a little differently. Here are the four non-negotiables I bring to every single appointment.

1. I treat the person, not the problem

Your knee pain doesn't exist in isolation. It exists in your body, in your life, in the context of your work, your sleep, your stress, your history and your goals. Treating just the injury without understanding you is like fixing a crack in the wall without asking why it appeared in the first place.

Every session at jem physio starts with you: who you are, what matters to you, and what you actually want from your care.

2. Support that actually fits your life

There's no point in me giving you a 45 minute daily home exercise program if you're working full time, parenting two kids, and barely have time to eat lunch. That kind of plan doesn't get done, and when it doesn't, you feel like you've failed. You haven't. The plan failed you.

I design support that is achievable and sustainable. That means realistic, adaptable, and built around your actual schedule and lifestyle, not an idealised version of it.

3. No blanket statements, just honest conversation

Healthcare is full of sweeping statements, and I'm over it. "You just have to rest." "That's just wear and tear." "People your age often experience this." These statements shut down conversation. They don't help you understand your body, and they certainly don't help you feel confident moving forward.

At jem physio, I replace blanket statements with honest, evidence-based guidance. That means nuance. That means sometimes saying "we don't fully know yet, but here's what the evidence suggests." That means treating you as someone capable of handling real information about your own body, because you are.

4. Education and empowerment

My goal is for you to not need me forever. My goal is for you to leave each appointment understanding your body a little better, to feel equipped, confident and in control of your own health.

When you understand why something is happening and what you can do about it, you become an active participant in your recovery, not a passive recipient of it. That shift changes everything.

Why these values matter

These aren't just nice-to-haves. They're the foundation of what I believe good physiotherapy looks like, and they're what I hold myself to in every session, whether you're coming in for an acute injury, a chronic condition, or something in between.

You-centred healthcare isn't a tagline. It's a commitment to showing up for the whole person who walks through the door.

If that sounds like the kind of care you've been looking for, I'd love to work with you. Book online and let's get started.
